Renowned by
many wildlife enthusiasts as one of Asia's best nature
reasons, the Chitwan National Park is not only on of the
last bastion for the great Asian one-horned Rhinoceros
and the Royal Bengal tiger. It is Nepal's first and most
famous national park, situated in the Chitwan doon or
the Rowlands of the inner Terai, covering an area of 952
sq. km. containing the hilly areas of the siwalik range
covered by hard-wood tree. "Sal" forest (73%).
First it was created in 1973 to protect grassland (20
% of the park area) and reverie forest (7%), shishom Kapok
palash, papal and kusum trees. rapidly dwindling tiger
and rhino po;ulations. In 1984 it was declared a UNESCO
world heritage site. The park is made up of the flood
plains of Narayani, Rapti and the few rivers and covered
by dense tall elephant grass support and unique variety
and abundance of wildlife. It is large for more than 300
endangered animals. It was the center for hunting for
Rana & Royal family killed 39 tiger and 18 rhinos
killed during one short safari.
Now a days t he park has about 600 rhinos and 120 tigers
and 50 other specie of mammals and over 450 different
typist bird even 67 different type of butterflies. |
