Nepal is also a land of Birds. It is hard to believe that more than 800 species of birds are known to Nepal. It is more than the combination of birds species of Canada and USA, which is about 10% of the world’s species, 17 species of cuckoo and more than 500 species of the butterflies. The pheasant is Nepal’s National Bird.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

In the year of 1976 with area of 175 sq. km. Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve was established on the flood plains of the Sapta-Koshi in Saptari and Sunsari districts of eastern Nepal. The main vegetation is tall khar-pater grassland with a few patches of khari-sissoo shrub, forest and deciduous mixed reverie forest wild buffalo (Arna) is the main attraction in this reserve with hog deer, wild deer and blue bull. About 450 different species of birds have been seen even 20 species of ducks are found here. The endangered animal like Ghariyal Crocodile and Gangetic Dolphin also has been recorded in the Koshi River.

Royal Chitwan National Park

Renowned by many wildlife enthusiasts as one of Asia's best nature reasons, the Royal Chitwan National Park is not only on of the last bastion for the great Asian one-horned Rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal tiger. It is Nepal's first and most famous national park, situated in the Chitwan doon or the Rowlands of the inner Terai, covering an area of 952 sq. km. containing the hilly areas of the siwalik range covered by hard-wood tree. "Sal" forest (73%).

First it was created in 1973 to protect grassland (20 % of the park area) and reverie forest (7%), shishom Kapok palash, papal and kusum trees. rapidly dwindling tiger and rhino populations. In 1984 it was declared a UNESCO world heritage site. The park is made up of the flood plains of Narayani, Rapti and the few rivers and covered by dense tall elephant grass support and unique variety and abundance of wildlife. It is large for more than 300 endangered animals. It was the center for hunting for Rana & Royal family killed 39 tiger and 18 rhinos killed during one short safari.
Now a days t he park has about 600 rhinos and 120 tigers and 50 other specie of mammals and over 450 different typist bird even 67 different type of butterflies.
Royal Bardia National Park
One of the most attractive spot of every visitor to see the magnificent Royal Bangal tiger is about 400 kms. from west of Kathmandu on Terai region. It is situated on the eastern banks of the Karnali river, covering 968 sq. kms. of land extending from the Churia hills to the flat of “Bhabher”. Most part of the forest is covered by Sal (shorea robusta) trees with grasslands and many tiny island created by the Karnali River
