Dolpo is
located inside the Shey- Phoksumdo National Park of
mid- western Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards
the Tibetan Plateau. Dolpo remains a truly isolated
corner of Nepal: time has stood still here for centuries
as the inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue to live,
cultivate and trade the way they have done since time
immemorial. The ecosystem encompasses a wild and wonderful
variety of plants and wildlife, including the blue sheep
and snow leopard. A trek through Dolpo is an experience
not easily forgotten. Mainly the trekking is done in
two areas;-
- Lower Dolpa..this is one of the last areas where
traditional Tibetan culture survives. Phoksundo Lake
is beautiful. Crossing the Num-la Pass (5200m) and
Bag-la Pass (5250m) is considered one of the greatest
adventures in Nepal.
- Upper Dolpa….. This area includes some of
the highest settlements on the earth. A large portion
of this area has been set aside as Shey-Phoksundo
National park, a shelter of blue sheep, Himalayan
black bear and other wildlife. It is possible to make
this trek with a special trekking permit and Nepal
government liaison officer.
