Boudhanath Stupa

The boudhanatha is the one of the oldest and the biggest stupa in the world Which has been an important place of pilgrimage and meditation for Tibetan and Nepalese Buddhists people. It is located on 7 km east of Capital Kathmandu. Which is known Khasti Chaitya in Newari Language.According to legend, The Boudhanath Stupa was  built during the 5th century AD, by an old woman who begged the land with the king to build place of worship to the Buddha. The king agreed with the woman, and offered her land as much as she could cover with the skin of a water buffalo. The woman proceeded to cut a buffalo hide into thin strips, and placed them end to end to form a huge circumference. And she built the stupa. Which has became special pilgrimage site and now has became tourist site too. The pilgrimages , monks and nuns can be seen   around this stupa moving in a circular clockwise motion with taking MALA in a hand as well as chanting the Mantra. It is especially spectacular at night when adorned with butter lamps. In this stupa there is very special ceremony on the occasion of The Bhudda’s birth day as well as other bhuddist special days
